Replacing a KitchenAid 6 Quart Mixer Worm Gear and Motor

I'm buying a bunch of replacement parts for my KA 6 qt mixer. It has 53 tooth worm gear. If I get a 60-tooth worm gear and new motor, will they fit? Also, I have the old style switch, now discontinued. I assume the new style switch will work?

If your mixer has a worm gear that only had 53 teeth, you will need to replace the gear with the new style worm gear (9709231) which has 60 teeth on the gear  http://www.mendingshed.com/newgear.html. You will also need to replace the motor with the new style motor (W10247536)  http://www.mendingshed.com/8204562.html, and you will need to replace the lower gear case/housing on the mixer. You will need the new style Lower Housing with the wider rib opening under the Motor, which will accept the larger sized motor.

All other components will stay the same, including the cord and all other gears.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Thanks, a big help. I see the motor & worm gear, but I need a black onyx lower gear case. Is that available? Otherwise I'll have to stick with what I've got. It's all working, but figured I'd rebuild while I was in there.

We do have the Lower Gearcase Housing in Onyx Black currently in stock, but it is not on our website, so you would have to call to place that order.

The item is known as part number 9706311. If the parts are not damaged I would not worry about repairing the mixer at this time. Those parts going bad is extremely rare, and the parts to rebuild the unit will be available for at least another 10+ years.
